Ayia Napa

Ayia Napa is one of Cyprus’ best-known seaside resorts, located on the island’s southeastern coast in the Famagusta District region. Once a quiet fishing village, it has developed into a destination that combines crystal-clear beaches, dramatic coastal scenery, cultural sites, family attractions and a famous nightlife scene. While many people know Ayia Napa for clubs and beach parties, the area is equally popular with families, nature lovers and visitors seeking relaxed Mediterranean holidays. The coastline around Ayia Napa is known for white sand, turquoise water and numerous Blue Flag beaches.

Most Popular Attractions

Nissi Beach

Perhaps the most famous beach in Cyprus, Nissi Beach is known for shallow turquoise water and soft white sand. During summer it becomes lively with beach bars, water sports and music events. At low tide, visitors can walk across to the small islet that gave the beach its name.

Cavo Greco National Park

This protected natural area offers some of Cyprus' most spectacular scenery: sea cliffs, walking trails, viewpoints and crystal-clear bays. It is especially popular at sunrise and sunset.

Monastery of Ayia Napa

Dating largely from the Venetian period, this historic monastery sits in the centre of town and is one of Ayia Napa’s oldest landmarks. Its stone architecture and peaceful courtyard create a contrast with the surrounding resort atmosphere.

Sculpture Open Park

An open-air hilltop gallery overlooking the sea with hundreds of sculptures created by international artists. It is a popular location for photography and sunset views.

Thalassa

A museum dedicated to Cyprus' relationship with the sea, displaying marine history, archaeological artifacts and exhibits about Mediterranean maritime culture.

MUSAN Museum of Underwater Sculpture Ayia Napa

A unique underwater museum combining art and diving experiences. Sculptures are submerged beneath the sea and can be viewed by snorkeling or scuba diving.

Visitors and locals often note that Ayia Napa is at its best when you combine the beaches with nearby nature and cultural sites rather than staying only in the nightlife areas.

McKenzie, Larnaca, Cyprus

The Mckenzie Beach area is known for being the centre of Larnaka's hippest nightlife, as well as a popular beach destination by day for both families and trendsetters, thanks to an array of facilities.

BEACH STRIP

The safe, Blue Flag, organised beach has shallow seawaters and clean sands. Facilities include sunbeds and umbrellas (for a fee), public conveniences, and kiosks. There are playgrounds, beach sports courts, water sports, open-air gym equipment, and the strip is manned by lifeguards who are also on-hand to assist with use of the floating wheelchair that is free-of-charge to use.

EVENINGS OUT

In the evening, the strip comes to life with the beat of live music and DJs from around the world playing at the many cafes and restaurants flanking the beach, offering a variety of options, from casual cafes to elegant dining. The majority of venues offer outside seating all-year-round and a characteristic style for many of the cafe-lounges is decors of elegant whitewashed tones, with private cabanas available at the more exclusive venues.

Mckenzie Beach

Located next to the runway of the Larnaca airport, the highly popular Mckenzie Beach is a one kilometre long strip with fine sands of varying shades of brown and beige, calm, clear and shallow waters, and abundant greenery.

Facilities on the beach include toilets, showers, changing rooms, sun beds, umbrellas, dustbins and a host of cafes, bars, restaurants and clubs that line the strip, including some of the island’s top nightspots.

Lifeguards with lifesaving equipment and first aid services are stationed at the beach from June – October, 10:30 – 18:00.
Due to the beach’s location, it is ideal for plane spotting, whilst there is also a wide array of water sports on offer along the strip, children’s playgrounds, and outdoor exercise equipment.

Concerts are held on the seafront stage throughout the year, whilst arts fairs and stalls are also held along the strip. The main visitor attractions of Larnaca Salt Lake and the Hala Sultan Tekke mosque are nearby.

The beach attracts both families and younger crowds during the day, whilst at night it is a premium destination for clubbing.

Access to the beach is easy and safe by foot, bike, bus or car, with a large municipal car park servicing the beach, and many entry points with paths and paving leading to the beach and the establishments lining it.
